Chapter 10: The II-V7-I Progression in Jazz
One of the most fundamental but extremely important chord progressions in jazz (for that matter in all music) is the II-V7-I progression. It is used from folk to rock/pop, classical, and jazz. The II-V7-I progression helps to lock in a given key area. You have already learned (in the previous chapters) that you only need one scale to play over all of the chords in the progression most of the time. I believe that this one chord technique will work for almost every style we have looked at so far.
In this chapter Dr. Klee will discuss and demonstrate how to determine what scales work best for the II-V-I progressions.
Here are the practice songs I suggest you first work on for this chapter.
Practice Song No. 1-Alone Again
Practice Song No. 4-I Long for Your Kiss
Practice Song No. 5-Magic Moment
Practice Song No. 7-Mysterious Woman
Practice Song No. 8-Relaxing with You
Practice Song No. 12-Saturday Night Alone
The pdf sheet music for these practice songs is located in chapter 18 of my book.
